Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis heaped rich praise on opener Anuj Rawat, saying that the youngster is a player for the future of the team.

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets in their IPL 2022 match at the MCA Stadium, Pune. RCB are sitting in third place behind KKR and GT, while MI are now at the bottom of the table, joined by defending champions Chennai Super Kings, losing all four games so far.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 68 runs off just 37 balls, but his efforts were in vain as Rohit Sharma’s men could not defend a 151-run lead. Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel took two wickets each, with Akash Deep getting one as well.

Even though RCB captain Faf du Plessis could only manage to get 16 runs off 24 balls, and Virat Kohli was dismissed just two runs short of a half-century, the team still managed to seal the win, thanks to a wonderful knock by RCB opener Anuj Rawat (66 runs off 47 balls), who played an instrumental in getting the win.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis was all praise for Anuj Rawat, saying that he is playing beautifully and is a player for the future of the team.

"I spoke about him before at the start of the tournament. Just looking from a potential that he has. Lots of conversations between the two of us. Trying to get that potential and that skill that he has to game awareness. The way he’s playing at the moment is beautiful, the way he takes on the game even early on coming down the wicket, showing that unteamed. That’s what makes the young guy young gun, so good for us at the moment. He’s a very good player for the future," he told the broadcasters.

Faf du Plessis praised RCB bowler Akash Deep who took the crucial wicket of Ishan Kishan, and gave away 20 runs in three overs, playing one maiden over in the process.

"Akash Deep was really good tonight, and if you could hold that back off the length, there was something there."
