Ranbir Kapoor's Shamshera box office prediction: Trade experts speak
India Today
Trade experts predict about Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Shamshera's box office collection. Here's what they have to say.
As the release date of the film Shamshera draws near, fans can't wait to see Ranbir Kapoor on the big screen once again. The actor, who is returning after almost four years, was last seen in Sanju, which was released in 2018 and was one of the biggest hits of his career. Now, all eyes are on Shamshera, which also features Sanjay Dutt and Vanni Kapoor. Will the film be Ranbir's biggest opening? Will it affect the actor's next film, Bramhastra? Here is what the trade experts have to say.
Speaking to IndiaToday.in, exclusively trade analyst and expert Taran Adarsh said, "It's an important film because Yash Raj has teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor once again and, more so because it's his next release after Sanju, which was four years back. So there has been a long sufficient gap between his last release and Shamshera. It is a big film with Yash Raj, Ranbir, and Sanjay Dutt. Sanjay is seen as the 'Khalnayak' if I can say that. Also, the most interesting part is that it will be great to see the onscreen Sanju pitted against the real Sanju."
"However, I would like to add here that the advance booking has not been very good. It is lower than Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 but better than Samrat Prithviraj and that's a compliment. But again this is a masala, mass entertainer and a lot depends on walk-ins and spot booking. Also, single screens don't have the culture of advance booking so it all depends on how single screen audience takes to it tomorrow. The numbers can escalate in a big way depending on the word of mouth," he added.
Talking about the opening day collection, Taran stated, "Hopefully, the opening day should be between Rs 15 to 20 crore. That's very important. It is a respectable total for day one. As these are post-pandemic times and it is very different now. It has to come up to that level. It's very important for Ranbir as well as YRF. YRF had three back-to-back disasters. It started with Bunty Aur Babli 2, followed by Jayeshbhai Jordaar and much recent Samrat Prithviraj, so I hope they are lucky the fourth time."
Akshaye Rathi agreed with Taran and said, "Considering the fact that this is an absolute mass film and the mass audience comes in a big way with the current booking, I would expect nothing less than Rs 12 to 15 crore collection on day one."
