Rajya Sabha bypolls: BJP names candidates for Assam, Himachal, Tripura and Nagaland

The BJP announced the names of five candidates for the Rajya Sabha bypolls scheduled to be held on March 31.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced five Rajya Sabha nominees, four on Friday and one on Saturday morning.
According to the party’s official statement on Friday, the BJP high command approved the names of Pabitra Margherita from Assam, Sikandar Kumar from Himachal Pradesh, Manik Saha from Tripura and S. Phangnon Konyak from Nagaland.
On Saturday, Rwngwra Narzary, working president of UPPL United People’s Party - Liberal (UPPL) was named as the other candidate from Assam. The BJP is in alliance with the UPPL in Assam.
Taking to Twitter, Pramod Boro, President of UPPL wrote: "We are really happy to announce the name of Rwngwra Narzary, Working President of UPPL as the candidate for the ensuing Rajya Sabha election. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our coalition partner BJP & AGP for giving us one seat of Rajya Sabha to contest."

Meanwhile, the Congress named Jeby Mather from Kerala and Ripun Bora from Assam as their Rajya Sabha candidates. Jeby is Kerala Mahila Congress president. Bora, a former Assam president, has been named for a second term.
The voting for 13 Rajya Sabha seats across six states is scheduled to be held on March 31. These include three seats from Kerala, two from Assam, one from Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Tripura each. Apart from this, five seats in Punjab will fall vacant on April 9 as the members will retire.
