Padma Sankaranarayanan, the mother of Nalini, another accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, said she believed that her daughter would be released soon. She said this after the Supreme Court ordered the release of Perarivalan on Wednesday, May 18.

Padma Sankaranarayanan, the 82-year-old mother of Nalini, an accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, stated she was elated by the Supreme Court’s decision to free Perarivalan and said she believed that her daughter would be released soon too.

As the family of Perarivalan rejoiced in the freedom that he enjoyed after close to 31 years, Nalini’s family is also happy with the Supreme Court's verdict.

Speaking to India Today exclusively, Padma Sankaranarayanan said, "We are very happy that he has got his release. Arputhammal has suffered a lot to get Perarivalan's release. She has met all the leaders and all possible ways were taken to get her son.”

Talking about the importance of having support in such a trying time, Padma said that her family doesn’t have the same support system.

“I am so happy that Perarivalan is able to breathe fresh air and there are several people who supported him. I thank all those people who worked for his release, and I hope that my daughter too gets released. It was Kalaignar (Karunanithi) who had removed her death sentence as Nalini had a child. I hope my daughter also gets released soon," said Nalini’s mother.

Talking about the next legal course the family is to take up for Nalini's release, Padma said, "CM Stalin has said that the state government will work for the release of the other six and I have seen that on TV. So, I am very happy about it. I have the belief that my daughter will be released soon."The family also thanked all those people who fought for the release of the seven convicts.

In a message to CM Stalin, she said, "We need to thank Stalin sir. It was due to their efforts that Arivu was released. Kalaignar was the one who helped get the death sentence commuted for Nalini. Now I pray that my daughter too gets released soon."
