Moderate rainfall in Visakhapatnam brings relief but causes traffic disruptions and power outages across the city.
The city witnessed moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Friday evening, bringing much-needed relief to residents after several days of intense heat.
The showers, which lasted for over an hour in many parts of the city, created a pleasant atmosphere. Residents stepped out to enjoy the change in weather, with many capturing and sharing visuals on social media.
However, the rain also caused minor disruptions across the city. Temporary waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas, particularly along NH-16 at IV Town Junction, Akkayyapalem and Kancharapalem, among other localities. Traffic movement was affected during peak-hours as motorists navigated waterlogged stretches and wet roads amid poor visibility caused by the downpour. Traffic-signals at multiple junctions stopped functioning, leading to mild snarls in several areas.
Power-supply was briefly disrupted in a number of localities. The failure of street-lights in interior areas caused inconvenience to residents, especially during the evening hours.
According to data from the A.P. State Development and Planning Society, Gajuwaka recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 30 mm, followed by Malkapuram with 26 mm.
