Punjab govt announces closure of VIP rooms in jails

Punjab govt will now put an end to VIP culture and therefore, it has announced to convert VIP rooms into jail management blocks.
In a bid to end the VIP culture, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced to convert all VIP rooms in jails into jail management blocks. This step taken by the state government will ensure smooth functioning of jail staff.
“With a view to ending the VIP culture, all VIP rooms in jails will be converted into jail management blocks to ensure smooth functioning of jail staff”, said CM Bhagwant Mann.
He also said that the concerned officers will be held accountable in case of negligence in jail and strict action will be taken.

While talking about the seizure of mobile phones from jail inmates, CM Bhagwant Mann said, “We have seized 710 mobile phones of gangsters from jail premises. Not only did we seize mobile phones but also took action against those who got the phones inside”.
“An SIT has been formed to probe the same. FIRs are also being registered. We've also suspended some officers,” added the CM.
Earlier in March, state Jails Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that the state government had put an end to the use of mobile phones by jail inmates.
