
Punjab and Haryana High Court stays Bikram Majithia’s arrest for three days

The High Court gave time to the Akali Dal leader so that he could appeal the court's order dismissing his anticipatory bail plea in the Supreme Court.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court, on Tuesday, granted protection to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia against arrest for three days.
The court made it clear that the time was given to Majithia to approach the Supreme Court to challenge its order dismissing his anticipatory bail plea.
However, Majithia had asked for 7-day relief against the arrest.

“Keeping in view the peculiar circumstances of this case, which are apparent from the detailed discussion as above, the court did not find ground to afford one week as prayed for. The petitioner is, however, granted three days relief to approach the Apex Court to challenge this order. Till then, petitioner be not arrested,” said the court.
The High Court on Monday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Majithia, who had been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
