Congress will lead the alliance for the Puducherry Assembly elections, asserts former Chief Minister Narayanasamy amid political challenges.
Former Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Sunday (March 8, 2025) asserted that the Congress would lead the alliance in the Union Territory for the upcoming Assembly elections, as announced by All India Congress Committee in-charge of Puducherry Girish Chodankar.
Speaking to reporters, he said that the Congress had always led the alliance in Puducherry in the past. “The party has already finalised seat sharing with the DMK in Tamil Nadu and we fully endorse Mr. Chodankar’s announcement.”
“We invited the DMK convenor for seat-sharing talks, but he said that he would check with the party leadership. We are waiting for their response,” he said, adding that there was no issue over the choice of venue for holding talks. Replying to a question, Mr. Narayanasamy said the Congress had no ego and it had led the alliance in Puducherry in the past.
Mr. Narayanasamy said that the Puducherry Government had been coming out with a slew of announcements and welfare projects like supply of protected drinking water and wastewater treatment plant with financial assistance from the Union government and the Asian Development Bank.
He questioned why the projects were now being hastily announced during elections while the Government remained in deep slumber for the last five years. This seems to be an attempt to divert the attention of the people and they won’t believe it, he said.
He demanded answers on why major projects were stalled for years and said that implementation of infrastructure-related works in every Assembly constituency shows the AINRC-BJP government’s fear of defeat in the elections.
