Police fired tear gas to disperse the protestors as clashes over the Prophet remarks row erupted in West Bengal's Howrah.
A massive clash erupted between protestors and police on Friday in Dhulagarh in West Bengal’s Howrah amid the Prophet remarks row.
According to reports, tear gas were fired by the police to disperse the crowd. Several rounds of firing have also been reported.
Meanwhile, the police also put up barricades between themselves and the protestors.
The video of the incident shows a huge crowd protesting against the remarks made by the now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The protestors can also be seen throwing stones at the police personnel.
Clashes between police and protestors also erupted at Salap Mor in Howrah. In both places, police fired tear gas at the crowd, reports said.
The protestors have closed the rail line in Howrah.
A day earlier, the protesters had blocked the National Highway connecting Howrah and the capital Kolkata. The protest was held despite an appeal by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Several vehicles were stuck on the highway for over four hours.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
