
Precautions will be taken to prevent spread of Nipah virus, says Karnataka CM Bommai

Karnataka, which shares a border with Kerala, is taking precautions to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus infection, Chief Minister Bommai said.
On Sunday morning, a 12-year-old boy died of Nipah virus infection in Kozhikode district of Kerala. Since then, the Kerala and central governments have gone into overdrive to prevent an outbreak of the disease that had caused the death of 17 people in Kerala in 2018. The Karnataka government, which shares a border with Kerala, is also taking precautions to keep its citizens safe.Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “I have asked experts to get more information on this and advise me on what steps should be taken. Precautions will be taken to control it [spread of the virus].’
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
