Amid a looming power crisis, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has hit out at the Centre over its decision to cancel passenger trains to rush coal rakes.
As several states continue to reel from an acute coal shortage, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has criticised the government's move to cancel passenger trains to rush coal rakes.
He said, "Abundant coal, large rail network, unutilised capacity in thermal plants. Yet, there is acute power shortage. Modi Government cannot be blamed. It is because of 60 years of Congress rule!"

Further cornering the Centre over the issue, he said, "There is no incompetence in the Ministries of Coal, Railway or Power. The blame lies with past Congress ministers of the said departments! Modi hai, mumkin hai."
The railways cancelled 42 passenger trains so far to facilitate coal freight movement in the wake of a power crisis in various parts of the country, causing inconvenience to people travelling to and from coal-producing states such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
