Its advance booking was opened on Sunday, September 25, and the initial trends are quite encouraging. As things stand, it has outperformed Vikram to record the third-best advance booking for a Kollywood movie in Tamil Nadu after Beast and Valimai. Ponniyin Selvan is a period drama, produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banners, respectively.

The advance booking for Ponniyin Selvan opened on Sunday, September 25, across 225 cinemas in Tamil Nadu. According to a Pinkvilla report, 2.5 lakh tickets have already been sold. It has collected Rs 4.5 crore through advance booking. The final numbers are expected to be higher as more theatres are likely to begin booking in the coming days. Going by these trends, Ponniyin Selvan fared better than Vikram. However, according to the Pinkvikka report, it may not be able to beat Valimai and Beast.

Ponniyin Selvan is touted to be a potential game-changer for the Tamil film industry. The two-part franchise has reportedly been shot on a budget of Rs 500 crore, making it one of Lyca's most ambitious projects. .
