The BJP government of Uttar Pradesh has drawn flak over a number of police encounters in which ‘criminals’ were killed. Speaking to Aaj Tak, Maurya defended the police action saying, “Police cannot sit and watch if they are attacked by the criminals. It is the duty of the government to maintain law and order.”
