Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after an officer involved shooting at Danforth Go station early Saturday morning, said Toronto police.
Officers responded to reports of a man with a gun at Danforth GO station around 1:08 a.m. Saturday, said police in an email to CBC News.
The man was located by police and shot. Toronto police did not provide any other details on the incident.
A man was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit has been invoked to look into the incident.
The Danforth GO Station remains closed and Lakeshore East trains will continue to bypass the station, according to the GO Transit website.
The president and director of the Toronto Police Association (TPA) attended the scene to support officers after the incident, said the TPA on social media.
“No police officer starts their shift wanting or intending to use force,” it said.
“But when the public calls, they respond to dangerous, unpredictable situations and make split second decisions in order to keep everyone safe, including themselves.”
