
Police vehicles to be used for towing

City Police Commissioner announces reintroduction of towing system using department vehicles to tackle traffic congestion and haphazard parking.
The vehicle towing system, which is going to be reintroduced in the city, will be done so with department owned vehicles and staff, City Police Commissioner, B. Dayananda, said .
Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Mr. Dayananda said that the system is being brought back as part of traffic de-congestion initiatives and to remove haphazard parking of vehicles on the roads, leading to traffic snarls .
It was decided to use the police owned vehicles and staff for towing with a revised guidelines instead of giving contract to others, he said, adding that this will also avoid other issues raised when the old system was in place.
The department will also rope in home guards and police personnel for the job .
