Police Sub Inspector Nassir Hussain dies during a charity run in Udupi, just a year before his planned retirement.
A 59-year-old police Sub Inspector from Kundapura Rural police station in Udupi district died after he collapsed during the run for ‘Drug Free Karnataka and Cyber Safety’. The run was organised by Udupi District Police on Sunday, (March 1, 2026).
The 59-year-old Nassir Hussain, an ex-serviceman, was among those running in the 5K run category. Hussain collapsed after running few meters from the stadium in Ajjarkadu in Udupi town. Onlookers arranged to take him to nearby hospital where he was declared dead, police said.
Hussain is survived by his wife, a teacher in Chikkamagaluru, a son and a daughter. Hailing from Adlur in Chikkamagaluru district, Hussain served in Kollur and Shankaranarayana police stations, before his posting to Kundapura Rural. He also served in Chikkamagaluru district too. He was due to retire from service in 2027.
Last week, Mr. Hussain acted timely to avert a full fledged communal trouble and the higher-ups had appreciated it.
Many people offered their condolences by visiting the police station in Kudluru village where his body was kept for about an hour on Sunday afternoon.
