Delhi High Court permits forensic examination of Sunjay Kapur's will amid inheritance dispute involving his children and former wife.
In a significant development in the high-stakes inheritance dispute over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, the Delhi High Court has allowed his two children with former wife, actor Karisma Kapoor, and his mother, Rani Kapur, to inspect the original Will, which is kept in a sealed cover with the court registry.
In an order passed on February 26, Joint Registrar (Judicial) Gagandeep Jindal rejected objections raised by Ms. Priya Kapur, in whose favour the Will purportedly bequeaths all of the late industrialist’s personal assets, against scrutiny of the document.
Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, late Kapur’s children from his marriage to Ms. Kapoor, had pressed for scientific examination of the Will, on the grounds that independent scrutiny could settle any doubts over authenticity.
The original Will was filed in the court on September 21, 2025. Ms. Karisma’s children had argued that the inspection of the original will is necessary for them to take appropriate steps to ascertain the authenticity and genuineness and to prepare their case.
On the other hand, Ms. Priya Kapur contended that the forensic experts cannot be allowed to inspect the original Will.
The court, however, ruled that “mere execution of non-disclosure agreement with regard to the list of assets of late Sh. Sanjay Kapur does not curtail the right of plaintiffs [Karima’s children] and defendant no. 3 [Ms. Rani Kapur] to inspect the original Will of late Sh. Sanjay Kapur kept in sealed cover with the registry”.
