Police step up vigil for Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Amaravati on May 2. Drones, Octopus forces and special party police pressed into service.
With the Intelligence sleuths sounding an alert in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the police have stepped up vigil for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Amaravati scheduled on May 2.
Senior police officers reviewed the security arrangements at the Gannavaram airport and the entire route the Prime Minister would take to reach the venue at Velagapudi.
State Nodal Officer G. Veerapandian, along with the Protocol, Revenue, Fire, Police, Airport and Medical and Health officers, reviewed the arrangements for the Prime Minister’s programme.
“The Special Protection Group (SPG), which looks after the Prime Minister’s security, will visit the places Mr. Modi will visit in Krishna, NTR and Guntur districts on May 2,” Mr. Veerapandian said.
The police would deploy drones to identify strangers, if any. The Octopus and special party police were pressed into service to intensify vigil.
Inspector General of Police Ch. Srikanth, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu, Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar, and other officers reviewed the security arrangements.
The police conducted cordon-and-search operations in Vambay Colony, Mylavaram, Tiruvuru, Kothapeta, Ajitsingh Nagar and other areas, and were keeping a tab on the suspects, if any, staying in the Commissionerate limits.

After mandating pet dog licensing and microchipping, Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) bids to do the same for cattle to curb stray cattle issues and man-animal conflicts in the streets. The civic body has moved to make it compulsory for cattle owners to obtain licenses for their animals across all zones.
