Chennai police solve a four-year-old murder case, arresting the accused after extensive investigation and tracking.
The CMBT police have cracked a murder case that remained unsolved for nearly four years, finally tracing and arresting the lone accused.
Police identified the accused as Balaji alias “Kathukuthu” Balaji, 39, a resident of Vyasarpadi. Investigators said the breakthrough came after officers pursued several leads and painstakingly tracked down the suspect.
The victim, Thangadurai, 48, a resident of Rajaji Salai in Tharapakkam, was working as a security guard. On the night of May 12, 2022, at the Koyambedu bus terminus, Thangadurai noticed another man sleeping in the spot where he usually rested. When he asked the man to move elsewhere, an argument broke out between them.
During the quarrel, the man allegedly assaulted Thangadurai and pushed him to the ground, causing a severe head injury. Thangadurai lost consciousness and collapsed. Bystanders rescued him and rushed him to Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital in a 108 ambulance. However, despite treatment, Thangadurai died on May 18, 2022.
Following a complaint lodged by his wife Kannagi, 42, the CMBT police registered a case and launched an investigation. The woman said her husband was working as a security guard and used to visit the family once in two months. She did not know where he was working.
A special police team led by the inspector of the CMBT police station conducted an intensive probe, examining several angles and analysing CCTV footage from the scene.
