Minister Dr. P. Narayana announces modernization plans for ASR Nagar slum in Visakhapatnam, ensuring proper housing and improved infrastructure.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Dr. P. Narayana announced that the slum area at ASR Nagar in Seethammadhara will be modernised during his visit to the locality on Saturday (March 14, 2026). He was accompanied by Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, and other senior officials.
The Minister interacted with the residents, inquiring about their needs, available amenities, duration of residence in the area, and their occupations. The residents informed the Minister that around 200 families have been living there for nearly 30 years on around 3.2 acres of land, earning their livelihood through daily wage work. They explained that they do not possess house ownership documents and requested the government to provide them with proper housing.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister assured the residents that discussions would be held with the landowners and appropriate steps would be taken to ensure that no injustice is caused to anyone.
The Minister instructed the GVMC Commissioner to prepare proposals for construction of houses in the same area under the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model. He also directed officials to examine the documents of those claiming ownership of the land and take necessary steps to arrive at a solution that will not cause inconvenience to either the residents or the private landowners.
Later, the Minister inspected the Master Plan roads connecting Bhogapuram Airport, including the roads from Nerella Valasa to Kothavalasa, Boyapalem to Kapuluppada, and Bheemili to Dorathota Junction.
He added that road construction works are already under way to improve connectivity between Visakhapatnam and the upcoming Bhogapuram Airport, and about 54 per cent of the road works have been completed. The construction works are being carried out jointly by VMRDA, R&B Department, and GVMC, he said.
