PM, Mamata Banerjee will meet secretly ahead of 2024 polls: Congress MP

India Today

Hidden meetings will happen between Didi and the BJP ahead of the 2024 elections to decide how the Citizenship Amendment Act will be used, Congress's Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee will hold hidden meetings ahead of the 2024 elections, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury alleged, adding that they both want a Congress-mukt Bharat.

“PM Modi and Didi have a hidden agenda. It is normal for Didi to sit and have tea with the Governor and the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, in Darjeeling. PM Modi and Didi both want Congress-mukt Bharat and these hidden meetings will happen between Didi and the BJP ahead of the 2024 elections to decide how the Citizenship Amendment Act will be used,” he said.

Mamata Banerjee visited Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar at the Raj Bhavan in Darjeeling today. Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present.

Speaking about the prime minister unveiling the national Emblem in the national capital on Tuesday, Chowdhury said, “PM Modi has a majority. So he thinks he can do anything. But inside the parliament, we are all equal. The Speaker is the head. He is like the Pope of the Vatican. The autonomy should be with him. Why didn’t the Speaker or the President unveil the Emblem? PM Modi is media addicted.”

“The national emblem belongs to all of us. If they start the beginning of the new parliament building in such a way, it means they do not have any respect for the Constitution and Parliament.”

The Congress on Tuesday lashed out at the BJP over the national emblem atop the new Parliament building, with the party's General Secretary, Jairam Ramesh, accusing the Centre of changing the nature and character of the Ashokan lions.
