Experts in India and abroad have recommended the lifting of mask mandates and school-age children at low risk of Covid were on the list of reasons provided by the parents in their letter to the Delhi government.
Parents of six-year-old children in Delhi have written a letter to lieutenant governor Anil Baijal, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and other senior officials, requesting them to quash the order mandating masks in schools.
The letter dated March 30 read, "We are parents of six-year-old school children in Delhi. We thank you for allowing schools to open in February 2022 and returning to go offline in April 2022. However, pursuant to orders of the DDMA and the Directorate of Education, masks are compulsory at all times in school. It is time to #UnmaskOurKids and #MakeMasksOptional."

List of reasons mentioned by the parents in their letter to make masks optional for children in schools:
- School-age children are at very low risk of severe Covid-19 as compared to adults.
- Masks may mitigate the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission; however, continuous masking can also be harmful to children’s development needs.
