AIADMK's Edappadi K. Palaniswami accuses Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of anxiety over BJP alliance, confident of 2026 victory.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday contended that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was showing signs of “anxiety” over his party’s alliance with the BJP.
Addressing the media outside the Assembly chamber, Mr. Palaniswami said that just as Mr. Stalin had been claiming that his front was formidable, his party [AIADMK] had decided to establish a “strong alliance”, which would definitely win in the 2026 Assembly election. The Chief Minister’s words of “shock” were betraying his sense of fear.
Mr. Palaniswami reiterated his position that he would form a front of like-minded parties that were keen on dislodging the DMK from power.
Recalling statements made by the DMK in appreciation of the BJP while being an ally of the national party in 1999, the AIADMK leader said the DMK found the BJP a “virtuous party” when it was with it, but was now finding fault with the AIADMK for having aligned with the national party.
He also recounted how the DMK and the Congress held negotiations on one floor of Anna Arivalayam [the headquarters of the former] for seat- sharing before the 2011 Assembly election when the Income Tax Department was conducting searches on the other floor.
