OnePlus Pad tablet may feature Android 12L, Google's dedicated OS for foldables and tablets
India Today
OnePlus may come up with its first-ever tablet in the form of the OnePlus Pad in its global as well as Indian market in the coming weeks. Here is what we know about the device so far.
OnePlus is anticipated to come up with its first-ever tablet soon. Likely to be called the OnePlus Pad, little is known about how the tablet from the smartphone manufacturer will turn out to be. The only thing we can expect at this point is to see the top-of-the-line specifications on the device. To back this claim, a shred of evidence has come to light in the form of a new leak.
It is likely that the OnePlus Pad will carry Google's Android 12L OS out of the box. For those unaware, the Android 12L is the new operating system by Google specifically designed for tablets and comes with a larger aspect ratio that better fits tablets instead of smartphones. With this, the operating system will avoid the "stretched-out" feel on tablets like we see with the Android OS on tablets right now.
The information comes through a new report by 91mobiles, which cites noted tipster Yogesh Brar for the leak. Unfortunately, no other details around the OnePlus Pad have been shared by the tipster. Though going by previous reports, we can expect it to mark a debut in the coming weeks.
The speculation originated in December last year, through another report by 91mobiles which had suggested that the OnePlus Pad may be launched in the first half of 2022. The speculation followed the first appearance of the OnePlus Pad moniker in July last year when it was trademarked by OnePlus. It is thus expected that the first-ever tablet by OnePlus may see the light of the day soon.
The publication also reports that "at least" one of the models of the upcoming tablet by OnePlus will make its way to India. Knowing that the OnePlus Pad will carry some high-end specifications, we may see OnePlus compete with the likes of the Galaxy Tab S in India with the launch of its tablet. If so, we can expect the OnePlus Pad to be priced upwards of Rs 30,000 in the country.
It should be noted that there is no official word upon the tablet by OnePlus as of now. Because of this, all the speculations above should be taken with a grain of salt. However, leaks and rumours have more often than not resulted in the exact final product from a company and the case may not be too different with the OnePlus Pad.
