Now, travel from Nagpur to Mumbai in just 3.5 hours via bullet train | Details

The Indian Railways is planning to start bullet train services between Nagpur and Mumbai. The high-speed train will cover about 766km in less than 4 hours.

You could soon travel from Nagpur to Mumbai in just 3.5 hours instead of the present 12 hours. The Indian Railways have proposed a bullet train service between Mumbai and Nagpur that is expected to travel at the highest speed of 350 kilometres per hour.

On Saturday, Union Minister Raosaheb Danve told PTI that the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Mumbai-Nagpur high speed rail corridor, commonly called bullet train, will be completed by the end of this month or the first week of March.

The proposed bullet train is expected to cover 766 kilometers in just 4 hours, along the soon-to-be ready Samruddhi Expressway, reported the Times of India (TOI). Danve said that the DPR will be prepared by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

The project is among the seven high speed rail corridors being prepared by the Indian Railways to push for India's marquee bullet train programme, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Rajya Sabha on Friday.

Danve was quoted by TOI as saying, "We have proposed this superfast train along the Samruddhi Highway project. We have the advantage of already having 70 per cent of land in our possession. We just need to acquire 30 per cent land from private parties." (sic)

The project would not cause any inconvenience to the farmers as no land would be taken up as the entire rail corridor would be on an elevated track, the minister said.

The reports suggest that from Lgatpuri, the train will change its path and the DPR project would also mention the number of stations on the train's route. The train is expected to pass through ten districts and it will have stops in major cities such as Aurangabad.
