
Non-bailable warrant issued against SP leader Azam Khan in 15-year-old case

A court in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad has issued a non-bailable warrant against jailed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan in a case from over 15 years ago.
In fresh trouble for Samajwadi Party MLA Azam Khan, a court in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad has issued a non-bailable warrant against him in a case from over 15 years ago.
The case pertains to Azam Khan allegedly making provocative and objectionable remarks while campaigning ahead of assembly elections in Firozabad’s Hussaini locality on April 2, 2007.
The prominent Muslim leader, who has been behind bars for over two years, has been ordered to appear before the Additional Judicial Magistrate in Firozabad on April 30.
A case was registered against Azam Khan at Rasulpur police station on April 4, 2007, after videos of his allegedly provocative speech were seen by district officials. The SP leader was booked for breaching section 144 of the CrPC, as well as violation of model code of conduct and section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.

In this case, Azam Khan had previously taken a stay order against arrest from high court, while the matter was also being heard in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Amrish Tripathi.
No application was presented by Azam Khan's lawyer even after the date of adjournment of the high court was over. Now, the judge has issued arrest warrant against Khan.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
