No proposal to increase BMTC, KSRTC fares, clarifies Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy denies any proposed fare increase for BMTC and KSRTC amid false social media claims.
Amid social media posts suggesting a possible hike in bus fares, Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy dismissed the claims, stating that no such increase has been decided.
The clarification comes after several posts were circulated online claiming that fares of State-run transport corporations, including Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), were set to be revised.
Mr. Reddy termed the social media claims “false” and said no proposal to increase fares was currently under consideration. He pointed out that a Public Transport Fare Regulatory Committee has already been constituted to streamline fare revisions for the State-run transport services. The committee, he said, would examine the matter in accordance with prescribed rules and submit its recommendations to the government.
The Minister further clarified that the government has not directed the transport corporations to increase fares and would not interfere in the committee’s functioning. Any decision on the future fare revision, he maintained, would be based solely on the committee’s recommendations.
