
No payment, no electricity: Assam power department lodges over 600 FIRs against power theft

In the last month, the APDCL conducted 1,904 raids against unauthorised electricity connections, and snapped the power lines of 1.11 crore consumers whose bills are outstanding.
In a massive state-wide crackdown on power theft, the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) has lodged over 600 FIRs in the matter of unauthorised electricity connections in the month of June. It is to inform you all that massive disconnection drives are going on in entire Assam. The maximum number of FIRs have been lodged in Mangaldoi, Lakhimpur and Nagaon district.”
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
