NIA seeks custody of Sachin Waze, Sunil Mane in Antilia bomb scare case

The National Investigating Agency has sought custody of dismissed Mumbai cop Sachin Waze for two days and Sunil Mane for five days in the Antilia bomb scare case.

The National Investigating Agency (NIA) has sought custody of dismissed Mumbai cop Sachin Waze for two days and Sunil Mane for five days in the Antilia bomb scare case. Both accused, along with eight others, are currently in judicial custody.Stringent sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) have been invoked in the case, which allows the investigating agency to take custody of an accused for 30 days. Previously, the NIA had Waze in custody for 28 days while it has questioned Mane for 15 days. The central agency now says that they "have traced incrementing material against suspected accused who having key role in the present crime." NIA says that "statements of crucial witness were recorded under section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code during the period of investigation and same are required to be confronted with accused Sachin Waze and Sunil Mane." The application filed by NIA further adds that the investigating agency is on its final leg of investigation "where in a role of key suspected persons has surfaced out and the same needs to be confirmed from the accused persons on the basis of documents and other materials."
