Bengaluru's 2026-27 Budget allocates ₹7,000 crore for infrastructure, including a new ring road and pedestrian pathways.
Bengaluru city has once again got ₹7,000 crore in the 2026-27 Budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday, the same as previous year.
While a major chunk of these funds, ₹4,000 crore, will go to Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Limited (B-SMILE) to fund big ticket projects like tunnel roads, the remaining ₹3,000 crore will be divided between the five new city corporations and other parastatals like Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), sources said.
The government has also allowed the new corporations to mobilise resources for development works through “municipal bonds” based on their balance sheets. The method will enable corporations to raise bonds linked to a revenue source or an escrow account. Bonds carry at least 2% lower interest than bank loans.
While the focus remains on big ticket infrastructure projects, including a new Intermediate Ring Road (IRR) connecting Nelamangala, Tavarekere and Bidadi, the Budget also stresses on several pedestrian facilities in the city, including the first of its kind 9-km pedestrian pathway on Outer Ring Road (ORR), entirely sponsored by Outer Ring Road Companies’ Association (ORRCA).
Infrastructure push
The construction of the IRR, which had been dropped earlier, has been revived. The project will be taken up using the financial resources of the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) and local planning authorities. However, there is no clarity on whether BMRDA will widen an existing road and rename it as the IRR or construct a new one.
