BCN Retail, or BCN+R, is a Japanese analyst firm which collects sales data of cameras from both online and offline markets. Recently, BCN+R has released a trends report from 2020. The report reveals that the whole camera industry did struggle last year, especially Nikon. The camera company is still in a rough market position post the pandemic. The report discusses the market as a whole, but it spends a large portion of it focusing on Nikon’s numbers. Nikon holds 44.8 per cent share in DSLRS, which is like scoring a second place overall. The camera company also holds 6th-place share of mirrorless with just 4.3 per cent. Nikon saw its placement among integrated lens cameras drop from first to fourth place between 2019 and 2020. Meanwhile, Canon secures the pole position in both DSLRs and compact cameras whereas, Sony leads the way in interchangeable lens mirrorless. Undeniably, the last year was very difficult for all the camera companies. The annual sales volume for all digital cameras dropped significantly by 59.6 per cent from the previous year according to the BCN+R's latest report. In the order of Nikon, Canon, Olympus (now OM Digital Solutions), and Sony have the largest declines in sales among all camera manufacturers.
