Police in north Goa have penalised nearly 3,000 people this year for violating Covid-19 protocols and not wearing face masks on beaches. According to the state health department, Goa reported 127 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, raising its tally to 57,839. Police at Pernem, Anjuna and Calangute cover the entire beach belt in north Goa district. Pernem's police inspector Jivba Dalvi said they had caught 957 people without masks so far this year and collected Rs 1.86 lakh in fine from them.
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
