The controversy over the revised NCERT Class 8 Social Science textbook has deepened after the Supreme Court questioned new references to corruption in the judiciary and delays due to pending cases. Even as the revised second edition received approval, it is currently unavailable for sale in bookstores and online.
The revised Chapter 6 of the NCERT Class 8 Social Science textbook has sparked a controversy after the Supreme Court raised questions over changes made in its second edition, which included references to corruption in the judiciary and delays caused by pending cases.
Following the court’s observations, the revised edition of the textbook is currently unavailable in the market. The book is neither accessible on online platforms nor available in physical bookstores, effectively keeping the updated chapter out of circulation.
Sources confirmed that the second edition was approved recently, but it has not been released for sale.
The controversy centres on the new additions in the second edition, which marked a shift from the earlier version.
While the previous edition explained the role of the judiciary and the system of checks and balances, the revised chapter introduced references to challenges such as corruption and case pendency within the judicial system.
The issue centres on Chapter 6, which explains the role and functioning of the judiciary. In the first edition, the chapter focused on the concept of checks and balances. It explained how courts protect citizens’ rights and ensure that laws are followed properly.
