Victor Gao, spokesperson of the Chinese Communist Party, accused US senator Nancy Pelosi of destroying the trust between China and the US and said Pelosi and her family will be sanctioned over her visit to Taiwan.
"No one can deny that Nancy Pelosi is the third highest ranking US official, even though her designation is Speaker of the House of Representatives. From the Chinese perspective, such a higher-ranking official cannot be allowed to visit Taiwan. Otherwise, it will trigger huge consequences," Gao told India Today.

"The US has let China down and destroyed trust. They need to suffer the consequences. Going forward, China and the US will find it more difficult to get along with each other because Nancy Pelosi managed to destroy trust between the US and China," he added.
