
Muslim cleric from Delhi held in Gujarat for killing man over objectionable Facebook post

A Delhi-based Muslim cleric and two others have been arrested in Gujarat's Dhandhuka in connection with the killing of a man who allegedly posted an objectionable Facebook post which reportedly 'hurt religious sentiments of people from the minority community'.
A Muslim cleric was arrested by Gujarat's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for reportedly inciting two followers and arranging a gun for them to kill a man over an objectionable Facebook post that the accused claimed hurt their religious sentiments. The cleric, identified as Maulvi Kamargani Usmani, was arrested in Gujarat's Dhandhuka.
Two accused, Shabbir Chopda (25) and Imtiaz Pathan (27) were held on Friday for murder of a man over an alleged objectionable post on Facebook.
A PTI report said that Kishan Boliya was shot dead by motorcycle-borne men on January 25 in retaliation for a Facebook post he had shared on January 6. A complaint was also filed by some Muslim community members alleging that the social media post had hurt their religious sentiments.
The Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi visited the family of the victim on Friday and said that the police are committed to provide justice to them. The murder case, initially investigated by Ahmedabad (rural) police, was handed over to the ATS on Saturday, the Indian Express reported.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
