Mumbai: IMD predicts hotter days ahead; April to be warmer than usual

The weather department has predicted a rise in temperature in the month of April. Mumbai and neighbouring areas may also receive some pre-monsoon showers next month.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted hotter days in April as day and night temperatures are expected to rise.
As per the prediction by the weather department, the above-normal maximum temperatures are likely to rise in the month over most parts of northwest India, central India and some parts of the northeast.
An official with the IMD’s regional forecasting centre in Mumbai told Hindustan Times (HT), "We cannot make a more specific prediction at this rate. For that, one should follow the IMD’s daily and weekly forecasts. But yes, it is very certain that April will be a warm month for the Konkan strip, especially after the heatwave conditions which we have seen in March."
Yesterday, the maximum temperature at the IMD’s Santacruz station in Mumbai was recorded at 32.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was recorded at a normal 22.6 degrees Celsius.
As per the IMD’s seven-day forecast for Mumbai, the daytime temperature could rise to 37 degrees Celsius by April 2. The minimum temperature in the city will range between 22 to 25 degrees Celsius.
The city can also expect light showers in the month of April.
IMD feels that La Niña conditions, that are prevailing over the equatorial Pacific, are likely to continue through April.
