
Mumbai civic body and Central railway review city’s monsoon preparedness

The BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) and Central railway visited several railway stations on Sunday to review the city's monsoon preparedness measures.
Senior officials of the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) and Central railway visited several railway stations on Sunday to oversee the work of cleaning railway tracks as part of the monsoon preparedness measures. The BMC and Central railway are conducting a joint exercise to remove sludge from submerged gullies and clean railways.
The work is being conducted between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station and Mulund railway station.
“The work being carried out for pre-monsoon measures in the Mumbai metropolitan area includes removal of silt from drains, widening of drains, cleaning of culverts under railway tracks and other places. This year also, the BMC in collaboration with the Central and Western railway administration, has undertaken the work of cleaning the culverts along with removing silt from various drains in and around the railway boundary,” said the BMC.
The civic officials added that the work will be expedited by installing pumps to pump rainwater at various places. They also said they will prune trees wherever necessary and the work will be completed by the end of May.
The commissioner of the BMC said that more than 63 per cent of the work cleaning drains has been completed by the civic body. He added that the BMC is better prepared for the monsoon this year.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
