As many as 38 monkeys were found dead and 20 others injured in the district's Chowdanahalli village last week. Officials initially suspected that the monkeys were poisoned, stuffed in gunny bags, beaten and thrown on the roadside near Chowdanahalli by some miscreants. The 20 monkeys injured in the incident were immediately provided with water by the villagers.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
