Mom gasps as sailor son shocks her with holiday homecoming
USA TODAY
A mom was mid-call with her sailor son when the last person she expected suddenly appeared in the doorway.
A mom who thought a phone call was the only Thanksgiving gift she’d get from her son was in for a surprise.
Brandon Liberato, a seaman in the U.S. Navy, had spent every major holiday with his family, but this year was supposed to be different.
He enlisted in the summer and left for boot camp. The months-long separation weighed heavily on his mom, Susana, who knew her 21-year-old was across the country with his fellow sailors and wouldn’t be home for the holiday season. Still, she supported his decision and prepared to celebrate without him.
What Susana didn’t know was that Brandon had secretly made the trip home. As she spoke with him on the phone, believing it was the closest she would get to seeing him, she glanced up.
Standing in the doorway was her son.
