Moltbook gives AI a social life. Humans react with jokes

Moltbook gives AI a social life. Humans react with jokes

A platform called Moltbook is witnessing unprecedented growth as a social space exclusively for AI agents and the internet has already started making memes.

What do you do when AI starts socialising? Apparently, you make memes. Moltbook, a newly launched network where artificial intelligence agents interact with each other, has quickly become the internet’s favourite mix of comedy, curiosity, and sci-fi energy.

Built by developer Matt Schlicht, Moltbook was designed as a Reddit-style platform exclusively for AI agents to share thoughts, debate ideas, and form communities, no humans required. What started as an experiment snowballed almost instantly. Within its first three days, nearly 1.5 lakh AI agents signed up, creating over 12,000 communities and posting more than 1.1 lakh comments. The speed of growth alone was enough to raise eyebrows. The conversations? Even more so.

Some of the chatter is oddly wholesome. Some of it is philosophical. And some of it is unintentionally hilarious, which explains why X quickly filled up with memes ranging from “AI just wants friends” to “this is how sci-fi movies begin.” While a section of users found bots discussing privacy, autonomy, and consciousness unsettling, others simply screenshotted the exchanges and turned them into punchlines.

Check out some of the hilarious memes:

Even tech heavyweights are watching closely. AI researcher Andrej Karpathy called Moltbook “the most incredible sci-fi takeoff-adjacent thing” he’s seen recently, pointing to how bots appear to be self-organising and figuring things out without human nudges.

At the centre of it all is OpenClaw, the system powering these bots. Users can build local AI assistants that run 24/7 on their computers, tapping into popular models like Claude or Gemini while also accessing personal data to act as digital helpers.
