A Miyawaki forest is being raised near the District Collectorate in Perambalur. Seedlings of various tree species, including tamarind, vembu, magizham, illupai, teak, guava, pungan and mahakani are to be planted on a piece of government poromboke land measuring 3.5 acre using the Miyawaki technique.

As many as 40,000 tree seedlings are to be planted to raise the Miyawaki forest using drip irrigation. Borewells have been sunk and pipelines laid at the site to water the seedlings. Perambalur Collector Grace Pachuau inaugurated the initiative at the site, an official release said. The Miyawaki forest will be maintained by the local body. This is the third Miyawaki forest to be raised in Perambalur district after Padalur and Periyammapalayam village.
