Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have returned to their US home in California after attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in the UK.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were on a planned trip to Europe to attend some charity events when the Queen died. Prince Harry had rushed to the Queen's Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be by her side when doctors mentioned concern about her health.
Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-serving monarch, breathed her last on September 8. She was 96.
Meghan and Harry participated in several outings to honour the Queen before attending her state funeral, which was held on September 19. Prince Harry and Prince William also came together to view tributes by mourners outside Windsor Castle along with their wives, Meghan and Kate Middleton. The two couples were seen together for the first time since Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royal members and moved their base to the US.
Meghan Markle paid subtle tribute to the Queen at the funeral with her choice of outfit and jewellery. She sported a pair of pearl and diamond earrings that were gifted to her by the monarch during their first solo outing in 2018. Even the dress she wore to the funeral was a quiet nod to Queen Elizabeth II. She opted for a black cape dress by Stella McCartney. She had embraced the navy blue version of the dress for a concert to celebrate the Queen’s 92nd birthday in 2018.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who are parents to 3-year-old son Archie Harrison and 1-year-old daughter Lilibet Diana, had flown to the UK to join Queen Elizabeth II during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June this year.
