
Mega event by CPM Thiruvananthapuram district committee in Kerala draws flak for flouting Covid rules

The mega Thiruvathira, a dance event, saw the participation of 502 women in violation of Kerala's rule that outdoor meetings cannot have more than 100 people in attendance.
A 'mega Thiruvathira' (a dance form) event, held as part of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) Thiruvananthapuram district congress, set to begin soon, saw blatant disregard of new Covid restrictions in place.
Meetings held outdoors in Kerala cannot have more than 150 people in attendance as per new restrictions. However, hundreds of people took part in the mega Thiruvathira that was held as part of the district congress of CPI (M) to be held from January 14 to 16.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
