In an unusual incident, a man brought ₹80,000 in coins to the Additional Family Court in Coimbatore on Wednesday, following a court order to pay interim maintenance to his wife.
The man arrived at court with 20 bags of ₹1, ₹2 and ₹5 coins, leaving the judge and other court staff surprised. The amount was part of a ₹2 lakh interim maintenance ordered by the court in the divorce case.
Additional Principal Judge Gajara R. Jiji ordered him to settle the amount in currency notes and instructed him to appear again on Thursday. The man, who had carried the 20 hefty bags of coins to court, had to take them back to his car.
Court sources said that the man appeared before the court again on Thursday and settled the maintenance amount in currency notes.
