India Today
Out of the 19,964 passenger vehicles sold by Mahindra in January 2022, Thar clocked 4,646 units edging out the XUV300 and XUV700 while registering a YoY growth of 47 per cent.
The Mahindra Thar took the top spot as the company's highest-selling vehicle in January 2022. The Thar overtook the XUV700, XUV300 and the Bolero to secure the spot, with 4,646 units sold for the month, with a Month-on-Month growth of 117 per cent from December 2021.
The Thar contributed to 23.3 per cent of Mahindra’s total PV sales for January which stood at 19,964 units. For December the top seller was the Mahindra Bolero, with 5,314 units while the Thar sold less than half of its January numbers at 2,138 units. The Thar's numbers are impressive considering it isn't exactly the most practical, spacious or feature-rich option at that price point. For January, the XUV300 took second spot with 4,550 units while the XUV700 took third with 4,119 units.
Mahindra's sales in January 2022, utility vehicles, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles combined, stood at 46,804 units. The company registered an overall growth of 20 per cent compared to the same period last year. However, the passenger vehicle (PV) category that includes the XUV700, XUV300, Scorpio, Bolero, Thar, Alturas G4 and e-Verito saw a small sales dip from 20,634 in January 2021 to 19,964 last month, a decline of 3 per cent.
Mahindra Thar is now in its second generation and is styled quite similar to the iconic Jeep with its vertically slatted front grille and circular headlamps. It gets massive wheel arches and body cladding, 18-inch off-road tyres are added too. It is offered in hard top or soft top configurations, both with four seats, one petrol unit with 150bhp and a diesel with 130bhp. In true off-road style, the Thar features a roll-cage, independent front and multi-link rear suspension, brake locking differentials, seamless shift from 4x2 to 4x4, electric driveline disconnect, underbody protection and many more. Mahindra hasn’t just made a recreational use vehicle, but also a practical daily driver, with contoured seats with lumbar support, 50:50 split 2nd row, height-adjustable driver seat, infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, roof-mounted speakers, electrically adjustable ORVMs and others.
