In Kalaburagi, Regional Commissioner (Kalaburagi Division) Krishna Bajpai, Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum, City Police Commissioner Sharanappa S.D., Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Bhanwar Singh Meena, Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu and other senior officers paid tribute to the chief architect of Indian Constitution at Jagat Circle in the morning. Later, leaders of political parties and civil society organisations garlanded Dr. Ambedkar’s statue.
In Ballari, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Sharanappa Sankanur, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Zubair N., Deputy Director of Social Welfare B. Mallikarjun and other senior officers paid tribute to Dr. Ambedkar.
At a programme organised in the Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU), Ballari, social activist Akshatha K.C. spoke on the life, struggles and contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. “Ambedkar was one of the greatest personalities that India has ever seen. He stood like a rock against all odds, faced all challenges and fought attacks to uphold the rights of the most marginalised and disadvantaged sections of the society. He raised his firm voice against gender discrimination and fought for equal rights for women in public life. The great man still lives in the hearts of millions of oppressed people and the pages of the Indian Constitution that he drafted,” she said, and called upon the people to get rid of superstitious practices and discard communalism to live in harmony.
Hailing Dr. Ambedkar’s fight for self-respect and the massive transformation the brought into the minds of people, VSKU Vice-Chancellor M. Muniraju termed Ambedkar as not just a Dalit leader but a world leader whose fight was for creating an egalitarian society founded on the ideals of liberty and equality. He also announced that the university would shortly open a centre to train students from backward classes for competitive examinations.
