
Lyricist-poet Vairamuthu wins Jnanpith Award, third Tamil recipient in 20 years

Acclaimed poet and lyricist Vairamuthu has been awarded the Jnanpith Award for his contribution to Indian literature. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin shared a post on social media and congratulated the stalwart.
Noted poet, lyricist, and novelist Vairamuthu has been honoured with the prestigious Jnanpith Award for his significant contributions to Indian literature. The announcement was made on March 14. The Jnanapith award is the country's highest literary accolade, and Vairamuthu is the third Tamil recipient in 20 years. The award recognises his achievements in poetry, novels, and film lyrics, highlighting his prowess across multiple genres.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin shared a post on X and congratulated the stalwart
"The Jnanpith Award goes to the poet Vairamuthu, who rules Tamil with his poetry! I was meeting and talking to the poet this morning. This sweet news arrived shortly after, adding to the sweetness of that meeting! This award, which has only been received by Akilan and Jayakanthan in Tamil so far, has brought him and us a sea of joy, joining hands with our ruling dynasty of poets who play with traditional and modern poetry and create innovations in the world of Tamil literature(sic)," his post, loosely translated to English, read.

"If the leader had been an artist, he would have praised Kaviperarasu with all his heart. I stand beside him and congratulate Kaviperarasu @Vairamuthu. Tamil Nadu congratulates the poets on their reign (sic)," he added.
Kamal Haasan also congratulated Vairamuthu on X.
