Central zone law enforcers establish election cells in districts to ensure security and smooth conduct of upcoming assembly elections.
Law enforcers in the Central zone are gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections by constituting election cell in the respective districts falling under the zone and vesting them with multiple tasks connected with security and poll related aspects with the overall aim of ensuring free and fair polls.
The election cell constituted in every district recently consists of a team of police personnel headed by an officer in the rank of a Deputy Superintendent of Police. It would function under the Superintendent of Police of the respective district. The cells would assess and devise plans for management of men, material and vehicles required for the forthcoming elections besides making assessment of the manpower strength required for bandobust in their respective district.
Working in close coordination with the respective district administration, the cells would also compile data pertaining to licenced arms holders in the respective district. The licenced arms holders would have to surrender their weapons to the jurisdictional police station or armoury concerned ahead of the election barring those exempted under three categories.
They would also devise plans for bandobust at the strong rooms where the electronic voting machines after completion of polling would be kept in safe custody, transportation of the EVMs from the designated location to the polling station and the strength requirement for the polling stations and the sensitive areas, said police sources.
Accomodation and other logistics to be made for the central armed police personnel to be deployed for poll security duty and briefing them about their tasks, compilation of information regarding pending non-bailable warrants against accused and preparation of detailed bandobust plan for the elections are among the other tasks entrusted to the cells.
The cells would organise training programmes ahead of the poll for the police men and officers on a range of topics connected with election. A special election-related training programme was conducted for police officers and men of Mayiladuthurai district on Tuesday ahead of the upcoming poll.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lost his composure in the state assembly after opposition MLAs accused his government of ruling with “guns and bullets”. The clash erupted over a police baton charge on protesting chowkidars, triggering sharp exchanges between the JD(U)-BJP alliance and the RJD. The confrontation briefly plunged the House into turmoil before ministers stepped in to restore order.
