
Law and order plays key role in overall development of State: Karnataka CM

The Chief Minister stressed on the need to combat rising cyber crime and root out the menace of narcotics in the State and make Karnataka ‘drugs free’.
Law and order, capital investments, development and job creation are deeply intertwined, and thus the role of the Karnataka State Police in the overall development of the State is key, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “Unemployment is fast emerging as a big problem. Effective handling of this requires law and order management,” he said while speaking at the Police Flag Day in Bengaluru on April 2.
The Chief Minister stressed on the need to combat rising cyber crime and root out the menace of narcotics in the State and make Karnataka ‘drugs free’. He directed the Karnataka State Police to further strengthen the beat system. He said while the government would stand by them for all their needs, the government won’t accept dereliction of duty.
The Chief Minister’s Police Medals, which had not been awarded for the past three years, were awarded together on April 2 to a total of 475 personnel — 2022 (131 personnel), 2023 (124 personnel) and 2024 (220 personnel).
A total of 22 personnel from Karnataka State Intelligence and Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) were awarded the medal for making the State “Naxal-free”. Those awarded include Intelligence chief Hemanth Nimbalkar, IGP Y. S. Ravikumar, DIG Sudhir Kumar Reddy, DIG, State Intelligence and SP Hariram Shankar, all of whom played a key role in the surrender of all the active Maoist activists in the State making it ‘naxal-free’, following the encounter of Maoist activist Vikram Gowda in November 2024.
Jitendra Kumar Dayama, SP, ANF who led the operation against Vikram Gowda, and others who participated in the operation, were also awarded the CM’s medal.
Shantigagi Nagarakira Vedike, a civil society group that played a key role in the Maoist activists joining the mainstream, has welcomed the award of the CM’s medal to those who played a key role in the effort to mainstream all Maoist activists.
Anupam Agarawal, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru was awarded the CM’s medal for the largest drug haul in the State — nearly 38 kg of MDMA worth ₹75 crore seized in Bengaluru.
