Lamborghini teases off-road supercar, Huracan Sterrato

The new Huracan is designed to go off the road and features extra bodywork and other enhancements to tackle trails in true Lamborghini fashion.

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has officially teased the upcoming off-road version of its Huracan named the Sterrato. With the video and images, one can see how the Huracan Sterrato has been fitted with extra bits, and many other exterior parts have been changed or modified to help the car tackle rougher terrain.

At the front there are two LED auxiliary headlamp modules mounted on the nose. The sides are bulgier here, as the Sterrato gets bolted-on cladding for the front and rear fenders. The roof gets rails to tie up luggage if need be. The front air intakes as well as the ones on the shoulders are different, probably to stop dirt, rocks, and other particles from entering inside while providing downforce. The top-mounted air scoop cools off the massive engine at the rear. The tyres are chunkier ones mounted on 20-inch alloys, while the suspension is higher and the underbody is expected to get protective modifications to deal with the much more abrasive terrain.

Lamborghini has not provided much information about the interiors, but expect the cabin to be the same as the Huracan EVO but with some additions to go with the ‘off-road’ theme. Powering the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato would be the same massive 5.2-litre NA V10 engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. In the Huracan EVO this engine is tuned to 640bhp.

Lamborghini will offer the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) on the Sterrato, which is a specialized terrain and performance management system that handles torque management, mainly sending increased power to the rear for improved off-road traction. The gearing and acceleration is also expected to be a bit different, to provide optimum grip along with fast acceleration on the loose tarmac.

The market for off-road capable two-door supercars is not massive, but the car would be an interesting pick for buyers in India where road conditions are often appalling. The Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato with its increased ride height, chunkier tyres, underbody protection, and the massive V10 powering it would be a sensible choice for someone who yearns for a two-door supercar but does not have access to proper roads to drive on.
